“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” - George Orwell, 1984
On January 20th, far-right extremists took complete control over the government of the United States.
It is an outcome brought about by a society that can no longer differentiate fact from fiction. Truth has been rendered obsolete. Unchecked propaganda machines, empowered by social media algorithms, corrode critical thought — minds corrupted by narratives designed to oppress the very people who spread them: the masses.
“Elon didn’t do a Nazi salute! Elon isn’t a Nazi!”
This is just one example of a false narrative that MAGA supporters and MAGA apologists would have you believe.
They will tell you that there simply isn’t enough evidence that it was a Nazi salute, that it was just an awkward gesture, despite the video of him doing it twice. They will compare pictures of Democrats raising their hands, leaving out the video context, when in reality the examples are incomparable.
They will tell you that Elon Musk isn’t a Nazi — that he was just giving his heart to the crowd.
But here are the facts:
Elon Musk is a far-right conspiracy theorist nutcase who is on record supporting far-right movements across Europe and America, including those with ties to outright Nazi extremism.
The AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) is a radical far-right party classified as a “suspected extremist” organization by Germany’s own domestic intelligence service.
The party maintains direct ties to Neo-Nazi figures and organizations, while attempting to popularize extreme anti-immigrant, white-supremacist rhetoric. They seek to rewrite the narrative surrounding Germany’s Nazi past while aligning themselves with modern authoritarians. Unsurprisingly, the AfD has become the home of numerous militant groups plotting to destroy German democracy.
This is the ideology that has now infiltrated the highest ranks of the United States government. Remember, Elon Musk donated at least a quarter-billion dollars to the Trump campaign, buying himself numerous perks, including a role in the administration, where he leads the Department of Government Efficiency.
But the rot extends well beyond Elon Musk — it plagues the entirety of the Trump Administration. In fact, Trump himself has become a symbol for far-right extremism across the globe, and he has welcomed such allies with open arms.
"He that lies down with dogs, shall rise up with fleas." - Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard’s Almanack, 1733
Eric Zemmour is perhaps the most notable figure of the foreign politicians invited to the inauguration, primarily due to just how radical he is — where even members of the traditional French far-right acknowledge that Zemmour has a Nazi problem. The observation makes sense given that he regularly promotes racist, white-supremacist talking-points, including the claim that drug dealers are mostly “Blacks and Arabs.”
…his latest book, La France N’a Pas Dit Son Dernier Mot (France Hasn’t Had Its Last Word), which claims that immigration and Islam will destroy the country and warns of a “war of races”. At book signings across the country, he has argued that the ‘white, heterosexual male’ is under threat from ethnic minorities and a so-called ‘gay lobby’. He claims foreigners have taken over whole neighbourhoods in France and, unless immigration is stopped, France will become an ‘Islamic republic’. (Source)
We shouldn’t wait until people are being rounded up and exterminated before we’re willing to call these far-right extremists ‘Nazis.’ When someone actively pushes race-war conspiracy theories, dehumanizes minority groups, and promotes aggressive action against them — whether subtly or openly — they are a Nazi. The more we excuse this behavior and pretend it’s anything but modern Nazism, the closer we come to repeating the tragedies of the 20th century.
These are the forces now welcomed, even promoted, by the American government, thanks to our newly appointed President Trump.
And even beyond the attempts to normalize vile, racist extremism, including the “very fine people” of Charlottesville, the Trump Administration has many additional plans for eroding American decency, dismantling democratic norms, and taking us closer to fascism.
"I had suspicions when I talked to you about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he's a total fascist.” - Retired U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley, referring to Trump (source)
After years of denying the legitimacy of a free and fair election, despite numerous defeats in court, Trump began his presidential term by immediately pardoning the January 6th insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol. This was part of a flurry of executive orders, including a blatantly unconstitutional attempt to end birthright citizenship, trapping the families of U.S. troops in dystopian, Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, betraying our military partners, withdrawing from the World Health Organization, rolling back civil rights protections, and kicking off his war against immigrants.
(Keep in mind, studies show that immigrants have lower incarceration rates than U.S. citizens, despite Trump’s claim that immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime; they’re rapists.”)
Unsurprisingly, given that Trump is a notorious liar, his executive orders actually align quite closely with the Project 2025 agenda, despite him previously insisting that he has no connection to it.
And no agenda would be effective without a team of cronies to implement it, which is why Trump has assembled one of the worst presidential cabinets in U.S. history.
Let’s take a quick look at who Trump wants to appoint to the highest levels of the United States government.
Pam Bondi - Attorney General
Pam Bondi’s credentials include promoting election denial-ism and conspiracy theories, as well as fighting against the rights of LGBT+ people. It’s also important to note that this was Trump’s second pick for Attorney General, only after he tried to nominate actual pedophile and overall degenerate Matt Gaetz.
Pete Hegseth - Secretary of Defense
Labeled an abuser of women by his own mother, Pete Hegseth has the history of an incompetent drunkard, who happens to be a racist, overall terrible human being, on top of being woefully unqualified for the position.
Tulsi Gabbard - Director of National Intelligence
Tulsi Gabbard has a history of calling brutal dictator Bashar al-Assad “not the enemy of the United States” while generally pushing pro-Russia, anti-American propaganda. Some might be tempted to grant her leniency under the misconception that she’s simply against perceived American interventionism abroad, but no, as according to her own words, “when it comes to the war against terrorists, I’m a hawk.”
She’s also part of a cult.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. - Secretary of Health and Human Services
A total disaster. RFK Jr. is a candidate so bad that doctors legitimately found a dead worm in his brain — which honestly makes sense given his overall insanity. RFK Jr. is the anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist directly responsible for a measles outbreak in Samoa, which killed over 80 people. He also advocates for heroin as a method of improving school performance. Truly a flawless pick for the person whose job it is to safeguard America’s health (we are screwed).
Honorable Mention - Kash Patel - FBI Director
Kash Patel is a QAnon hero, unhinged conspiracy theorist, and likely psychopath.
We could go on, but you get the point.
The Trump Administration will be an absolute disaster of mismanagement and malice, severely impairing our country during a time of historical importance.
To those who seek to do us harm, it’s an opportunity.
"Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that really threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedom.” - President Joe Biden (Source)
For decades, the richest among us have worked tirelessly to expand wealth inequality and further their control over society. Now, the Trump Administration is offering them a new ‘Gilded Age’ of corruption.
Despite claims of being an anti-establishment figure and wanting to “drain the swamp,” Trump has tapped an unprecedented 13 billionaires for his administration. His inauguration was full of tech CEOs, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Tim Cook, after they donated millions of dollars to his inaugural committee.
Amusingly enough, the populist right was once strongly against the perceived influence of “globalists” and oligarchs — but of course, now such figures are celebrated, so long as their wealth and power back the MAGA agenda.
“I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.” - Donald Trump, referring to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein (source)
And what is the MAGA agenda? It is whatever Trump arbitrarily decides it is:
Pardon drug lords when it is politically favorable
Scam your followers out of billions through an unregulated asset
Sell out to foreign countries
Etc.
There are no principles. There are no moral codes, no ethical guidelines. MAGA exists solely as the cult of Donald Trump, and Donald Trump’s only true agenda is to enrich himself at the cost of everyone else.
This is the new leadership of America.
There must be a resistance.
It’s easy to feel hopeless amidst so much doom and gloom. However, it’s important to remember that things can always get significantly worse.
We live in a time when artificial intelligence threatens to eliminate hundreds of millions of jobs, and those in charge of determining whether AI will serve the prosperity of the many or the few are the tech bro elites. AI CEOs are out giving interviews predicting that AI will surpass humans in every capacity, and that the entire structure of society will be “up for reconfiguration.”
I hope I don’t need to elaborate on the dangers of renegotiating the foundations of society while tech elites have us over a barrel.
And that, of course, is just one concern.
At the same time, President Trump threatens to unravel America’s global alliances by threatening our allies and praising our enemies.
Let’s not forget the massive nosedive our international reputation took after Trump’s first term, with the second term now looking even more antagonistic.
So how do we push back against the unraveling of all the progress we’ve made as a country?
Recognize the threat and hold Trump supporters accountable.
We need to abandon the pacifistic liberal approach of handling politics, where we warn about fascism for years and then retreat away once it arrives. Democrat politicians should be in the trenches right now launching the fiercest resistance of their lives, calling out Trump for the danger he is to the country. They should be opposing every single nomination and every single piece of legislation that Republicans push out — which is exactly what Republicans would do to us over far less.
Instead, it seems like business as usual. Democrats make a few statements about Trump’s policies being bad; then they go back to promoting bipartisanship and cooperation. Where is the alarm? Where is the rebellion? Everyone’s acting as if we didn’t have retired military generals literally calling Trump a fascist.
Worst of all, we’re still falling for the “you shouldn’t insult 50% of the country!” gimmick that MAGAs drop every time a Democrat politician says something remotely negative about them. Recall when Biden had to rush to clarify that he wasn’t calling MAGA supporters garbage, and every Democrat under the sun had to distance themselves from the comment?
Well, MAGA supporters are garbage. I’ll say it. They promote a Nazi agenda. They want to ruin the lives of millions. They plan to sabotage the country and sell out to the oligarchs and the authoritarians. That’s just the truth.
When have the Republicans held back from making negative comments about Democrats? Donald Trump constantly describes Democrats as “radical left lunatics” who are “the enemy from within.” Yet we’re expected to say nothing back. He’s allowed to call us communists, fascists, enemies of the state — which is parroted by his unhinged supporters — but they break down crying when they receive the same treatment.
Imagine if Joe Biden tried to overturn a free and fair election, then pardoned the insurrectionists who tried to help him do it, simply repeating the exact same actions as Donald Trump. Imagine if, instead of a bunch of angry white people, it was a bunch of angry Black or Hispanic people. Do you think Republicans would be arguing for the same clemency they’ve asked for January 6th protestors? No, they would be calling for heads on pikes.
But somehow, our society has fallen into the trap that it’s perfectly acceptable to allow Republicans to fall beyond even the lowest standards possible, while Democrats must be held to the highest — and you dare not insult a Republican, ever!
Maybe I would tolerate the pacifistic liberal approach if it was actually winning elections, but 2024 has proven that it doesn’t. Trump said every inflammatory comment under the sun, which he has normalized and is now given a free pass on, while Democrats remained focused on unity — then Trump won and Democrats lost. It’s time for a strategy change.
We need to be pragmatic. We need to copy Republicans’ winning playbook. No more bipartisanship — it would only hand Republicans victories, improving their reputation while hurting our own. We need to let Republicans fail on their own accord, so that Americans can actually see what they’re voting for. We should be blaming Republicans for every problem under the sun (which, honestly, would often be a fair assessment). We should be constantly highlighting everything good that we’ve done, so that it’s obvious to even the most ignorant voter imaginable.
We need a ‘new media’ narrative machine that can rival that of the Republicans. Right now the vast majority of popular podcasters and influencers who speak about political or social issues are right-leaning. Joe Rogan is a prime example — someone who once pretended to be a progressive, only to end up praising (Nazi) Elon Musk and simultaneously endorsing Trump during the final stretch of the election.
It’s a situation that’s extremely dangerous for liberals. It means that, every day, people (mostly young men) are being subtly radicalized by bad actors, and Democrats have absolutely no counter. These bad faith influencers have zero quality control, spreading whatever misinformation they want, and it’s eaten up by audiences who blindly trust them.
One part of the solution needs to be throwing our support behind existing left-leaning political commentators, who will have the time and the means to combat the constant flow of enemy propaganda. However, we also need to be constantly on the lookout for new/relatively undiscovered left-leaning influencers who can reach audiences that typical liberals normally don’t have access to — namely those who aren’t necessarily as political, but who will tune in when their favorite influencer has something to say.
On top of all of this, if we’re being really ambitious, the ultimate goal should be to establish an entire alternative news network, similar to conservative’s “The Daily Wire.”
A key issue with the current decentralized influencer approach is that left-leaning political commentators are forced to rely on news reports by mainstream outlets. These are outlets that are controlled by billionaires. That means giving the oligarchs a monopoly over critical information, and we’ve already seen these outlets try to censor anti-Trump sentiment, right as their overlords have decided to get in bed with MAGA.
Imagine if we had a left-leaning news organization, powered by the people, that had the means to rival the mainstream media. That would be a huge win. You could have a wide assortment of centrist to progressive liberals working together for the betterment of the country, supporting each other, having critical conversations and debates, countering misinformation, launching investigations, and reaching tens of millions.
Unite against the enemy, expel the traitors.
Liberals have some weird fixation with running losing political strategies. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a consequence of blind idealism. Liberals think that we live in a good world of sensible people, when in reality we live in a brutal world of irrational people.
We need to learn to embrace pragmatism and accept imperfection.
Look at how Republicans run their party. It’s united entirely behind Trump. Every anti-Trump Republican figure has either capitulated or they’ve been forcefully exiled from the party. Most importantly, Republican influencers have the will to pump pro-Trump propaganda whenever it’s time for elections.
Meanwhile, liberals are busy tearing their own administration to shreds 24/7 all the way up until Election Day. Yes, it comes from noble, idealist intentions set on creating a better country and holding us to a higher standard — but it also loses elections and surrenders political power away to an unfathomably worse political force (that being MAGA).
So can we agree to unite against the greater enemies when necessary?
You have practically three out of four years to criticize a Democrat administration as much as you want. You can primary every Democrat politician you want and push for change that way. However, when it’s a matter of controlling the presidency of the United States — every liberal must unite behind the Democratic nominee, no matter who it may be, so long as we are up against the MAGA threat. If we don’t, then we will lose millions of votes as people either vote third party or refuse to vote entirely. Then, we will end up under significantly worse conditions, where whatever idealistic change we wanted becomes entirely impossible.
On the topic of primaries, though, let’s also agree to axe the fake Democrats who do nothing but sabotage the liberal agenda and side with the enemy.
The only thing that a person like Joe Manchin does is hand future elections to Republicans. If Republicans controlled the senate then at least Democrats would have the excuse of Republican obstructionism when they inevitably fail to meet their policy goals. But when a Democrat-in-name-only like Joe Manchin sabotages the agenda, it removes even that excuse in the eyes of the public, as all they see is a Democratic majority failing to improve people’s lives. It’s a recipe for disaster.
And then the traitorous John Fettermans of the world go out on media tours praising the far-right fascists, normalizing their behavior, and acting as if Democrats are in the insane ones! It’s just handing free ammunition over to MAGA. Why are we tolerating this? If this were the Republican party, such traitors would be shamed, shunned, and expelled, replaced with a loyalist dedicated to the cause. And which party controls the house, senate, and presidency right now? It’s the party full only of those who are diehard loyalists to the president, giving Trump complete authority to do whatever he wants. That’s how Republicans end up being seen as the party of “action” and “change” — despite the fact that they are a party of pure disaster and chaos.
There must be extreme consequences and radical acts of insubordination.
Now is the time for protests, yes — but they won’t be enough. We must oppose the MAGA-controlled government and its deranged adherents at a more fundamental level.
When MAGAs try to act as if everything is normal, when they attempt to continue their relationships as if they have not condemned this country to ruin — you must treat them as the enemies that they are. It’s irrational to sit back and act buddy-buddy with people who empower an immoral man who wants strip away your rights, ruin the lives of millions, and erode the decency of society. Would you act friendly with the pro-slavery Confederates of the 1800s? Would you hand-wave away the immorality of a Nazi-supporting family member or friend during 1930s Germany? If not, then why do you afford the enemy such privileges now?
We need to combat this ideological cancer at a level so deep that it’s impossible for MAGAs and MAGA apologists to ignore the consequences their unethical politics. If we don’t, then they’re just going to continue disregarding how their political decisions affect the lives of others — because these are people who lack common empathy, and who only become concerned when it’s their own lives that are affected.
The most radical action, however, must be taken by those with power — those whose insubordination might help prevent national crisis.
Because crisis is coming.
We’ve already discussed the threat posed by the alliance of oligarchs and far-right extremists, but there are other hostile forces who have been diligently working to corrode the fabric of American society and who are now salivating over the America’s decline.
That is — the alliance of authoritarian countries who seek to create a new global order, and who are being gifted such an opportunity by Trump, as he both destroys America’s international reputation and neuters its military capability.
China far surpasses our military shipbuilding capability, and now owns the largest Navy on the planet by number of ships. On the technology front, China either rivals or exceeds us. At the same time, the Chinese Communist Party is seriously considering the forceful annexation of Taiwan and claims to be preparing its forces for war.
The problem is that, if you look at the timeline, it just so happens that China’s golden opportunity aligns perfectly with the time in which America will be dealing with the fallout of a disastrous Trump presidency — AKA, the time in which America will be at its most vulnerable.
At this rate, the best case scenario might be us simply watching as China replaces us as the most influential power in the world, increasing its share of global trade after disastrous Trump tariff wars and furthering its influence over foreign countries after Trump has cut nearly all foreign aid. The worst case scenario might be us getting decimated in a war in defense of Taiwan, after years of mismanagement by Pete Hegseth, complete alienation from our allies, a campaign of replacing military officers with loyalists, and the waste of military resources over wars in Mexico, Panama, Greenland, or the Middle East.
“I ___, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” - U.S. Officer Oath of Office (Source)
It is under such considerations that I implore military officers and enlisted service members, should extreme circumstances arise, to actively resist waging war against America’s allies. And in the event that such extreme circumstances do not arise, I urge them, at the very least, to speak out against the disastrous policies of America’s new leadership, and do all that is possible to pull the country away from its own self-destruction.
And to America’s allies — you must operate under the full realization that America has, for now, fallen to bad actors. Do not plan to rely on us in times of crisis, as we are quickly approaching the point where we will be either unable or unwilling to help. Our Democratic allies must take up the mantle of global leadership until we are able to sort out our domestic issues.
Conclusion.
As a country, America has become stuck in a cycle — elect Republicans, have Republicans destroy the economy, force Democrats to fix it, and mistakenly elect Republicans again after falling for the misinformation machine.
It’s unsustainable. It has to stop.
We’re flip-flopping on policies every four to eight years. Our debt is out of control. Wealth inequality is out of control. Our allies are seeing us as increasingly unreliable. Even our basic rights are in flux.
People are starting to become ashamed of this country — a country that is supposed to be a beacon of hope for the world.
Now it’s fallen to degeneracy and far-right extremism.
The only way we can break away from this path of decline is by taking the action that is necessary to force real change. If we don’t, then we’ll be forced to watch as everything good is stripped away and replaced with shit.
Recognize what we are dealing with — acknowledge the enemy that exists.
There must be a resistance.
